1890 Jermyn & Co. opened a new colliery in Old Forge. The first shipment of coal was July 1890. Two shafts were sunk to the Red Ash Seam at 236’. A 18’ air fan was installed.
1904 A new slope was driven from the outside to the Top vein.
1906 On strike from February 13 till November 1. Central remodeled from top to bottom, with a capacity of 1800 tons.
1907 New hospital and foreman’s office were built in the 5 Foot vein.
1908 Old Forge #2 Shaft Idle since June. The workings have been completely overhauled. The shaft is now concrete from bedrock, and raised to accommodate a grade with a new steel and concrete bridge over the main gangway, eliminating a crossing. Inspector considers Old Forge ranks as one of the best in My district. New pump installed at the #2 shaft. New washery completed at the #1 breaker. Water is used from the Clark Vein in the #3 shaft by the BIG pump a distance of 1000’.
1910 Jermyn : Note. All references to Jermyn1 And 2 are combined after 1910. The #3 shaft was at the Rendham Jermyn #1. New slope and shaft to the Surface Vein. New slope and air shaft to the Marcy Vein. New drift and air shaft to the Clark Vein. New fire room, 2000hp and new jigs installed at the breaker.1912 Jermyn #2, slush pump 25 x 10 x 36” installed for the purpose of pumping slush to a borehole near the #1 shaft, where a pulverizer is erected to crush breaker culm. Both slush and culm go down a borehole to fill and secure abandoned workings.
1913 New steam line erected from the breaker to the #1 shaft. #2 shaft grading haul roads to eliminate steep grades. Considerable work done in filling in the old workings of the Red Ash Veins with culm from the breaker. Engine and pump house at the #13 rebuilt. Rock plane 7’ x 12’ at 12* was driven from the Nigger Vein to the Clark Vein.
1915 A slope was sunk from the surface to the Clark Vein, near the #2 shaft and engines, etc. were installed in order to facilitate transportation.
1914 Jermyn mining pillars extensively. Also concreted the #3 shaft and fan way.
1916 New wash house
built at the #2 shaft. New slope driven from
1917 #1 shaft connects with the Top, Middle, Bottom Red Ash Veins. #2 connects with the Middle Red ash Vein.
1920 Jermyn has a
new slope from outside to the Clark Vein as an 2nd opening. Airshaft
